🔧 Tools & Materials You’ll Need
Rear view camera kit (camera, wiring, and display screen / head unit)
-
Screwdrivers (Phillips & flathead)
-
Power drill (if mounting requires drilling)
-
Wire strippers & electrical tape
-
Plastic trim removal tool
-
Multimeter (optional but useful for checking connections)
-
Zip ties
📌 Step 1: Choose Camera Type & Placement
-
License plate camera → easiest to install, mounts near number plate.
-
Bumper camera → requires drilling into the bumper.
-
Trunk handle camera → replaces trunk handle for a factory-like look.
Mount the camera in the center (above license plate) for the best view.
📌 Step 2: Mount the Camera
-
Remove the license plate or trunk trim (if needed).
-
Drill a small hole (if required) for the camera wire.
-
Secure the camera with screws or adhesive bracket.
📌 Step 3: Connect Camera to Reverse Light
-
Run the red power wire of the camera to the reverse light positive wire.
-
Ground the black wire to any metal part (car body/bolt).
👉 This ensures the camera turns on automatically when you shift to reverse.
📌 Step 4: Route Video Cable
-
Run the video cable (usually yellow RCA) from the trunk to the dashboard/head unit.
-
Hide it under carpet, side panels, or roof lining using a trim removal tool.
-
Keep wires neat with zip ties.
📌 Step 5: Connect to Display
-
If your car stereo supports a rear camera input:
-
Plug the yellow RCA video cable into the “Camera In” port.
-
Connect the small trigger wire (comes with RCA cable) to the reverse light, so the display switches automatically.
-
-
If you’re using a separate monitor/mirror display, mount it on your dashboard or clip it over your rear-view mirror, then connect power & video input.
📌 Step 6: Test the Camera
-
Turn the car ON.
-
Shift into reverse gear.
-
The display should switch to the rear camera view.
-
Adjust camera angle if needed.
📌 Step 7: Secure & Finish
-
Tuck away all wires neatly.
-
Reinstall panels and license plate.
-
Use electrical tape/heat shrink to cover any exposed wires.
